2008 Christmas in the Netherlands

Christmas!

A different atmosphere where you can tell between HongKong, the place I am staying now, and the Netherlands.

In short, at HongKong, you can tell the holidays by the decoration in the department store and the streets. Besides that, crowded shopping mall, full restaurants reservations and on sale are THE theme and activities for the people here, despite any holidays...

While at the Netherlands, the Christmas is a thoroughly Dutch family holiday. To be accurate, on December 5th, SinterKlaas is celebrated where children are treated to gifts and adults compose humorous poems about each other.

To let me get into the mood of Christmas, Maarten's family specially postponed the gift exchange on December 25th. Festive lightings, a real Christmas tree at home, traditional treats such as gingerbread with raisins and rich sweet almond jam, fried apple pie, dough ball, chocolate initials, gifts, my dream fireplace, a short walk in the park and visiting friends and family.
